Modest Hollywood

Soooooo, I've been a bit out of touch lately so this next Modest Hollywood list is going to be quite the doozy. I guess that's a testament to how many women in Hollywood have ventured into the realm of modesty and staying covered up (at least for one night) for the last few weeks.

Let's have a discussion about what is going on here, specifically with all the WHITE. I am pretty sure white makes an obvious appearance every spring and summer, but it appears that this season it is especially haute. Between Ashley Benson, Sarah Paulson, Taylor Swift, Lizzy Caplan, Cate Blanchett, and Sophia Bush, the head-to-toe white look is the way to go this spring in summer. SO are you taking notes?

I really don't even have a favorite from below because they are all so stellar, but I'll give you my top 2: Taylor Swift ( that dress is perfection!), Cobie Smulders (uh, I mean smolders, because woah).

#Oscars2014: What They SHOULD Have Worn: Viola Davis, Kerry Washington, and Penelope Cruz

I was so underwhelmed by last night's Oscar fashion and I couldn't help but be disappointed by the choices the women selected. So, I took it upon myself to become their woulda-coulda-shoulda stylist and I prescribed three dresses that each nominee SHOULD have worn.

Viola Davis

What she wore: Escada Emerald Green Gown
Why it didn't work: No woman in her age category should be walking around in a dress that looks this bridesmaid-y. She is swimming in it! Viola has so much more to offer than this and I was so disappointed to see her crash and burn like this.
What she should have worn: If it was color she wanted, the Elie Saab dress below would have looked killer on Viola's curves. As for a green a-line dress that would have been truly beautiful and nothing close to bridesmaid territory would have been the Zuhair Murad dream below. And if she wanted to go the simple and unassuming route, the blue Monique Lhullier gown would have been a solid choice.

Kerry Washington

What she wore:Jason Wu Dusty Lavender Gown
Why it didn't work:This actually did work, it just wasn't my favorite gown from a woman who has been so hot and so haute all season.
What she should have worn: Kerry was not nominated for anything so I would have really liked to have seen her play around with fashion a bit here. The Valentino gown below is so exotic and would have fit over her baby bump just perfectly. The empire waiste Zuhair Murad gown would have been elegant, chic and totally on trend with the evening. Last, I think the Badgley Mischka gown, which Kelly Osbourne actually wore would have been her moment. That dress should have been Kerry's and she wold have OWNED it with that gold capelet gracefully grazing that beautiful baby bump.

Penelope Cruz

What she wore: Pink Giambattista Valli
Why it didn't work:Way to take a sexy woman and make her so completely dull. This woman has so much more to work with than what this dress did to her.
What she should have worn:The L'wren Scott and Badgley Mischka gowns below have such spice and Penelope would have destroyed it in these gowns. Since Penelope was clearly trying to go the more ladylike route, I chose something from Zuhair Murad that definitely would have had all eyes on her.

#Oscars2014: What They SHOULD Have Worn: Julia Roberts, Jessica Biel, and Idina Menzel

I was so underwhelmed by last night's Oscar fashion and I couldn't help but be disappointed by the choices the women selected. So, I took it upon myself to become their woulda-coulda-shoulda stylist and I prescribed three dresses that each nominee SHOULD have worn.

 Julia Roberts

What she wore: Givenchy Black  Lace Gown
Why it didn't work: This was the best she has looked all season, but she definitely could have pushed it some more.
What she should have worn: That Valentino she wore when she won with Erin Brokovich was pretty much the best she's ever looked. I would have loved to see her go bold in the Valentino below, but I understand that she may have been going for something more conservative, which is why the other two gowns, while drastically different, would have been beautiful and age appropriate.

Jessica Biel

What she wore: Chanel Nude Metallic Gown
Why it didn't work: Obviously this woman has an amazing body and would look good in anything. But considering that this nude metallic was the trend of the evening, Jessica did not pull it off as well as others. We have seen this dress a thousand times before. Go bold!
What she should have worn: Tell me you don't think the following dresses wouldn't have looked AMAZING on her, especially compared to the ho-hum frock she wore last night. Jessica Biel is no stranger to bold colors, which is why I chose that phenomenal Lela Rose gown. I also love the yellow Elie Saab, which is a far more muted, but still colorful gown. And that purple Badgley Mischka would have taken her skin tone to a new level of awesome.

Idina Menzel

What she wore: Green Vera Wang
Why it didn't work: Talk about a dress just swallowing you whole! This is not her best look and for a woman who is supposed to be the Ice Queen, Idina should have rocked a more majestic look.
What she should have worn: I included both icy looks and a dramatic deep colored one. The Chanel gown below would have hugged her so beautifully, and that model does not do the gown the justice that Idina would have. Likewise, the Tadashi Shoji gown would have simply stunned on the singer and she would have looked like she stepped straight out of "Frozen" while still being on trend. Finally, the Monique Lhullier is a different more subtle look that would have been far better achieved than the look she went for above.
