Hurricane Sandy Survival Kit

I know it may be a bit late to post this now, I felt that now that you are all cozied up in your homes, you can search online for the proper attire for a hurricane. Not that I advise you to go outside--in fact, it's the opposite; I encourage you to sit down, relax, and shop online for clothes that you would only theoretically wear were you outside right now. Plus, I am bored as anything right now. Just remember to stay safe!

Let's start with coats. Trenches, raincoats, ponchos. Whatever your choice of cover, make sure you do it in style. Here is a rundown of some #HurricaneSandy approved coats for your staying-dry needs.

Love a classic trench. You really can't go wrong with one, and this lighter version is perfect for a rainy day like today. Lighter colors do tend to be more favorable for the springtime rains, but there is nothing that can stop you from donning this with a great pair of boots. I let.

A bit more sporty and a great anorak for the pummeling wind and rain that this Hurricane is sending out way. You may wanna bundle up with a sweater underneath, but protective anoraks are perfect for keeping your great and fabulous clothes dry.

Another classic. A short trench. But this one's got a twist with that powerful orange pop. Let's just say, if you got lost or needed a rescue responder to see you from your roof, this is the coat you want to be wearing.

The North Face is the standard in outerwear protection and while trenches and jackets are great, nothing is more stylish than being safe and protected. This is the ultimate in Hurricane outerwear.  And it comes in a bunch of cute colors!

Here's that darker camel color that will suit the fall color scheme on these October rainy days. There is a reason that ASOS called this one the "Classic Trench". PS it comes in black too. Classic.

If style is more your concern, this rain jacket is perfect. It doesn't have a belt like a normal trench and has not buttons on the exterior, but it's as trendy and classic as raincoats can get.

A classic plastic jacket? It's the material of all water-resistent materials. You'll be safe in this, rest assured.

It's yellow and it's a poncho. I mean if you are in an amusement park on a rainy day, this would be your go-to, but it will work for a yucky day like today too.

There is nothing more essential in a raincoat than a hood. I mean, it's kind of essential, and what makes this coat great for a day like today is the layers. Hurricanes are normally tropical and warm weather storms, but with Sandy combing with a winter storm from the west, this superstorm is making for a cold and ugly day. Layer up.

It's a slicker. ANything with that word in it automatically qualifies as awesome. Plus, that navy patent trench seems highly effective in repelling that rain.

Next let's work on rain boots. I personally find them to be a nuisance, but you can deny that on a day like today, with Sandy rearing her ugly head that the rain boot is a wardrobe essential.

It appears that when the weather sucks, we ladies like to stick to the basics and the classics. Enter Hunter wellies. The ultimate in rain boots, Hunter is fit for a Princess. Literally. Kate Middleton loves Hunters. And if it's good enough for the future queen... And again, Hunters come in just shy of every color.

Burberry. That's all.
Yellow wellies! Another classic.

These would go great with any of the trenches above. Water protection and style. Perfection!

This is one bad-ass rain boot. You could certainly kick Sandy's ass with this boot.

These are festive and fall appropriate. Love them.

Shiny Item of the Day

Could we discuss awesome for a second? I mean, I know this whole jumping from space thing is technically "awesome" Mr. Felix Baumgarten, but I want to put this blazer on the awesome qualification list. Reasons are as follows: a) the cuteness factor b) totally on trend c) it glitters (!) but it's not overwhelming d) neutral. Sequins are practically a neutral, and that taupe color is neutral perfection d) unstructured blazer means equality for all women (in the fit department-- we're still working on taking over men in the salary department. Baby steps.) e) functionality-- you can dress it up, dress it down, wear it to work, wear it to a party. Versatility at it's best. f) THE PRICE. Now that I just gave you a million (read: 6) reasons to buy this blazer, I think you should put ME on the awesome list. Hey Felix, glad to be in your company.

Feminine Item of the Day

Lord help me, because there is nothing I am loving more right now than an adorable print blazer! I was inspired by this Rebecca Minkoff blazer that has me positively smitten (click on that link, or click here). I've said it before, and I'll say it again that blazers are the ultimate in chic coverups, especially for work; a print blazer is the perfect way to dress up a ho-hum outfit with a feminine and chic touch. This blazer from Piperlime is perfect for just that! DOn't even tell me that you're not in love, because I know that you are. I just know it!

Rockstar Item of the Day

So I've officially found my ultimate look-- maxi skirts with motorcycle leather jackets. If you check out my Pinterest board Looks I Love, you'll notice that some of my favorite looks involve a nice leather jacket and a maxi skirt. It's just so rockstar. This faux vegan leather motorcycle jacket from Free People is the perfect cheaper alternative to achieving this look. You can buy it from Free People by clicking on the link below, or get it on Zappos here on sale! The cropped look is especially perfect for summer, and it looks much better with higher-waisted maxi skirts.

Are you a rockstar chick yourself? Like, can you actually sing and rock out? Here is the perfect website for musically inclined women: . It's a musical website that sells instruments, accessories and products geared totally toward girls and females -- spelled grrls with two R's for Rock and Roll. If that's not rockstar, I don't know what is! So go get yourself this jacket and pick up a guitar or something. If you get signed to a label or something, I'm totally taking credit.

The Tropics!

Are you feeling the heat?? Not yet, obviously, because it's still winter. Boo. Fear not, though, because the clothing stores are packed with hot spring clothes, and nothing is hotter this season than tropical prints! Large floral prints are the statement of the moment, so don't hesitate to embrace the trend at full force. If you can't actually be in Hawaii, you might as well dress like you are!

The key to pulling this look off is balance. These prints are not for the feint of heart, so if you decide to go bold, make sure you wear toned down pieces, like neutrals to counter. In fact, I would go even further to say that you should choose a pretty basic outfit and spice it up with a tropical piece, like a blazer or cardigan. Bigger prints are better on smaller parts of your body, so if you have a very large bust, tray and avoid tops, and stick to skirts; if your bu, is the larger part of you, then try and stick to smaller on the bottom and larger on top.

Trail-Blazer!

I realized not too long ago that I haven't done a rundown post in a very long time, and as per a twitter request from @BrOOkEsterama, this post will be all about blazers! I love blazers to death, and the best part about blazers is that they are the perfect cover up (fancy or casual) for any outfit, and it's the fabrics, colors cuts and designs that dictate the place and time to wear them. Best of all, any woman of any size can grab a blazer and go, and still look fabulous! Take a look below for just a taste of what blazers have to offer!

Preppy
Nothing says preppy like a chic blazer. Every time I see a navy blazer (especially with gold hardware), I think of Ivy Leaguers traipsing around the hallowed halls of Harvard, Yale and Chilton (fake, but preppy nonetheless).  Blue blazers are a casual alternative to the black blazer , and reek of Hamptons-chic. Don one of these blazers for a sharp, put-together-yet-casual look. PS, you will never fail when pairing a navy blazer with stripes. Fact.

Notched Lapel Blazer
The quintessential blue blazer. You'll no doubt feel smarter and slightly more elite in it.

Like linen blazers, the denim blazer is ultra casual, but super chic to wear anywhere. This one would be great for a white sundress, or pair it up with a little black dress for a night out.

This is like a school boy's blazer for the adult female. Complete the ultimate prepster look with a pair of Sperry A/O 2s and then hop on a sail boat. Why not.

Barbara striped knit blazer
I am dying for this blazer. It's super casual with the horizontal stripes, but can still jazz up any office outfit during the week.

Color
To really dress up an outfit and complete a look with style, try a colored blazer. Make sure the details are limited because color will speak for itself. The colored blazer looks fabulous over a summer sundress, or even those winter neutrals.

Bright ponte blazer
This blazer is simple and cute and design, but speaks volume in color. It dresses up denim quite nicely, so feel free to wear this with every denim skirt you own, or come summer, pair this with a navy top and white skirt for some true patriotism.

Long Tuxedo Jacket
The sexiness that a tuxedo blazer exudes is limitless. This blazer is definitely more for the nightlife, and if you dare to risk it, can dress up a dull office outfit.

This blazer is a bit of a risk for the office, but I kind of like it. If you have the type of work environment that is relaxed and not afraid to embrace color, then be bold with blazers like this. Otherwise, save this for a casual occasion like a bridal shower or dinner.

Shapeless blazers (aka "The Boyfriend Blazer", because it's a woman's blazer that is cut more like a man's) are a tricky deal, but I happen to think the boyfriend blazer is perfect to add over fancier and tighter pieces. These will definitely make any outfit more casual, but still put together.

Feminine
The feminine blazer is the ultimate in chic and is a fabulous way to soften up your outfits. Look for soft fabrics, light and cute cuts and edges, lighter pastel colors, and a more clean and casual fit.

LC Lauren Conrad Scalloped Open-Front Jacket
This blazer is simply delightful. The pink will rosy up any outfit and the scalloped edges are so feminine. It's not a traditional blazer, there is no button in front and the lapels and collar are minimal,  making this a true woman's blazer.

If you are brave enough to pull of florals, then power to ya, sista! The cut of this blazer is fabulous, especially if you want to highlight your waist, and the print would look super stellar with a white dress.

I love the soft neutrals that definite the feminine blazer. SO fresh and clean but still sharp and classy.

I think this one would be great for the nighttime section as well, but this is certainly a print you won't see on men, which is what makes this so feminine. It's not as dainty as some of the other blazers here, but it's a strong, lady-like piece. The cut is shorter than most blazers, and the shoulders are not as exaggerated as some of the other pieces here. Be aware, bold print on blazers are HUGE this season.

Nighttime
Unconventional fabrics are the key to the nighttime blazer. Don't forget, the blazer is first and foremost a professional piece, so add sequins or velvet to a professional piece, and you are sure to command power in any nighttime setting. It can take any dress and fancy it up while looking clean-cut and tailored.

Sequined knit blazer
This sequined blazer may be a bit overwhelming because of how long it is (I tend to like more cropped sequin blazers because they are less distracting), but it has its charms, and would certainly look great with a black dress (long and short alike).

My twin sister is the proud owner of this blazer, and she rocks it quite well. Velvet is a heavier material, so pair this with lighter pieces, like a soft, chiffon-like top.

Pardon the supermodel in the bra, but I couldn't find another picture that was more modest. The blazer however is fabulous, and like the one above, it commands attention. Just remember a shirt next time. This blazer will even look great with more causal pieces like denim.

This leather blazer will never go out of style. It's a chic update on the leather jacket, only with more flattering cuts and better fits than in fashion years past. This is the perfect topper for a night out, and ramps up any outfit with a little rebellious biker style, white still retaining the feminine look.

Classic Black
Last but not least is the classic black blazer. You simply cannot go wrong with this piece and it will no doubt look great over anything and everything. Like I said before, this piece is an office staple, so make sure you have one for your boardroom meetings. But don't shy away from the black blazer on weekends or nights either. It's the ultimate in chic.

This boyfriend blazer is the same as above, and it has a great, casual, effortless look in black. Pair this with a denim skirt for true laid-back style.

Cropped Boyfriend Blazer
I adore this pairing like crazy. A cute summer print and a black blazer are never a bad thing. The cut of this blazer is sharp and sophisticated, and perfect for weekday or weekend.

JACQUARD PATTERN BLAZER
Another classic for your collection.

Try and stay away from blazers that don't have clean lines and don't stick to the classic blazer rules; anything too loud, too juvenile or too crazy crosses over blazer territory into, well... crazy-lady-in-a-weird-jacket territory. Like these:
