Happy Met Gala Day, OAKies! This long awaited day has finally come, 364 days after the last one, and on one of the most spectacular days New York City has seen in 2015. You know, through the dreaded darkness that is wintertime, there is always a bright spot in my blogger's world, and that is award season --Oscars, Golden Globes, SAG Awards-- you name it, nothing carries me through the dark lonely winter nights quite like an award ceremony red carpet. (PS put that on the list of things to never say to a potential mate.) So you can imagine how sad it is to me when award season is over; however there is nothing better than the coming of spring, ushering in the warm weather, beautiful flowers, pleasant scents and the Met Gala, of course...not all in that order.
For those of you not in the know, the Met Gala is the Metropolitan Museum of Art's annual ball, actually dubbed the Costume Institute Gala, and it's basically the Oscars of fashion. Top tier celebs, designers and models show up to the famous museum stairs for a night filled with glamour, beauty, and fearless fashion. (Seriously, when I say fearless, just look at Sarah Jessica Parker this year.)
With this year's theme being China, there was no shortage of outrageous looks, beautiful colors, delicate silhouettes and feminine appeal; in terms of trends florals reigned supreme tonight. Most gowns contained or alluded to some sort of botanical form, which I suppose is a major theme if China. Others include the color red and origami-like silhouettes. There were a fair share of fashion bests and worsts-- however, if you know me, you that that's for a different post. In the meantime, peruse the fantastical looks, in alphabetical order, of the China-inspired group below, and don't forget to breathe.
